Speaker
District Governor Sylvia White was introduce by Leon. She has attended four International Conventions, is involved with Leadership Tallahassee, and is soon heading to Prague to sing with a chorus. There are goals of Rotary on the International, District, Club, and Personal levels. The number one priority is to defeat Polio, and so far we have raised $133m internationally. That’s two-thirds of the amount that Bill and Melinda Gates offered to match. Our District has contributed $60k. There is a new grant funding structure coming in 2013, with more of an emphasis on contributing to the Permanent Fund. Rotary is always rated very high by Reuters for its philanthropic use of funds. At the May 2010 Council Meeting they announced a new fifth avenue of service – New Generations. Part of that effort is to setup strictly online clubs. Those clubs must have a minimum of 20 members to start and dues are as low as $25 a quarter. The next Rotary Leadership Institute is this coming January in Panama City. Other upcoming events are the District’s Membership Seminar and the Tallahassee Foundation Gala. We were encouraged to put Rotary International in our wills

Pensacola Seville Rotary Club Celebrates One Year

Pensacola, FL ., July 19, 2010 --- Over fifty members, along with their families, friends, and visiting Rotarians gathered at Heritage Hall to celebrate the One Year Anniversary of the Pensacola Seville Rotary Club.

The Pensacola Seville Rotary club has fifty-six active members, with the majority of those being charter members.

“Our rotary club is unique because it appeals to a young professional demographic and is the only club in the Pensacola area, and one of only two clubs in the District, which meets in the evenings. We have found that our club is a favorite for make-ups because after work we unwind, network with fellow Rotarians, and then enjoy a presentation by a guest speaker who is usually from our community,” said Aeiko Mitchell, club member.

In its first year, the club has done a number of noteworthy things, including hosting a Group Study Exchange student from India, hosting Rotarian John Capps, raising funds for the Backpacks for Costa Rica International Project, adopting Oakcrest Elementary School, donating two latrines for the Etta Project, participating in Literacy Week and the Brown Barge Career Fair, and welcoming over two hundred visiting Rotarians and Guests.

If the first year is any indication of what is to come this club has a bright future, having received both The District 6940 Governor’s Citation Award and The Presidential Citation Award for the 2009-2010 Rotary year.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests are welcomed to attend the club’s weekly meetings which are held Tuesdays at 5:30pm in Rosie O’Grady’s at Seville Quarter.

For more information about Pensacola Seville Rotary visit http://www.sevillerotary.com or call Kevin Ryan, Club President at 850-434-7065.
